People of the State of Hawaii looks to have so much love for
flowers and use it very much in their daily life. It has been the first ever
state to have its official state flower too which is yellow Hibiscus and also have number of customs which have a lot to
do with flowers.
Hibiscus:
Hibiscus most commonly means delicate beauty. It was grown first in England during the Victorian
era. This flower is very much rare because it requires particular weather
conditions in order to bloom and is therefore considered to be really special
and delicate.
As per Hawaii culture Hibiscus is a symbol of royalty and portrays power and respect. So when it is given to visitors they should feel honored
and respectful for getting it.
Women wearing a
Flower:
It’s a common tradition for all Hawaiian women to wear
flower, usually Hibiscus on the top of their hair. They can easily show whether
they are single or married by the way of ornamenting flower in their hair. For
instance, if a lady wears a flower on the right of her head and close to her
ear; she is single and therefore available. Whereas, if she wears it on the
left it denotes her to be married and not available any more. This makes the
custom even more interesting and unique as it is exclusively followed in
Hawaii, possessing flowers to be a symbol of marital status too.
Lei:
One more flower allied Hawaiian norm is Lei. Being a garland made of local flowers, Lei is the most popular
flower tradition of Hawaii. In Hawaii, every island has its own official flower
and those flowers are used for leis.
And not only the residents but the flowers delivery to Philippines visitors and guests are
also welcomed with an honored heart and a pleasing lei in order to adore them.
Another concept of presenting lei is to make the visitors
feel that they are in a tropical paradise,
which all Hawaiians believes it to be.
The history of
Hawaii Lei:
The lei custom is very ancient and was introduced by early
Polynesian Voyagers. They started their way from Tahiti falling the stars. With
these early settlers the tradition of lei was borned in Hawaii where leis
started to be formed with flowers and are still amongst the necessities in the
place.
Native Hawaiians are very proud of their flower customs and
norms. These traditions are been passing by from generations to generations and
are still keeping the state distingue from rest of the world.
